The Unite trade union, which represents British Airways (BA) cabin crew, has urged the carrier to return to the negotiating table to try to avert the first of a series of strike days looming this weekend.
The majority of BA cabin crew are to withdraw their services for a three-day period from this Saturday, 20 March.
Cabin crew are also set to strike the following weekend on the 27, 28, 29 and 30 March.
However, speaking on BBC Radio 4 today, Unite general secretary Tony Woodley said he was making a public offer to BA to get “serious negotiations” off the ground again.
He suggested that BA put the offer that existed last week back on the table and serious discussions could begin to try to solve the problem once and for all.
BA yesterday announced that during the first strike period it intended to fly around 45,000 customers each day on March 20, 21 and 22, which it said represents around 60pc of customers originally booked to fly on these days.
