Grants available for tech to promote Irish arts

15.07.2010
A new grant scheme aimed at using technology to promote Irish arts and culture was announced by Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport Mary Hanafin TD today.

The new Cultural Technology Grant Scheme will aim to use the best of modern technology to promote Irish arts and culture in all its forms across both new and existing technology methods.

The scheme will make funding available to projects which seek to create, develop and/or exploit information and communication technologies and modern communication tools with a view to delivering a promotional, educational or information product to promote Irish arts and culture.

“Ireland is already well placed as a destination for the cultural tourist and funding being provided under this scheme should help extend our existing market base for cultural tourism. Exploiting new technology such as apps for iPhones, or web-based digital projects in order to highlight our diverse arts and culture will be at the heart of this scheme,” Minister Hanafin explained.

The Minister said funding levels will be linked to the scale of the project being applied for and that all good business ideas, no matter how small or large, which can work to promote Irish arts and culture will be eligible to apply.

“Good ideas don’t always have a huge cost and often to get a good idea off the ground a capital input of perhaps a few thousand euro can be a huge benefit. There are great ideas and innovations developing all the time and this scheme will enable us to see the best ideas being put to good promotional use,” she said.

The Cultural Technology Grant Scheme is accepting applications between now and 15 September 2010. Full details are available here.
